The trend has been for hull-side windows that really open up space below. They have been getting larger and shaped in such a way as to accent the yacht lines.
These windows must follow the shape of the hull and must be formed and bonded to the landing on the hull.
Bonding agents require minimum UV penetration, so usually a painted outer layer is required (a frit).

Acrylico has introduced an acrylic with a special formulation that blocks 99% of UV, so the frit need not be on the outer surface to interfere with the cosmetics.
This acrylic also blocks up to 45% of IR, thereby greatly assisting yacht air conditioning systems.
Hull-side windows can also be fitted with portholes, discreetly blended with the system.
